* This news release is only for the Asian market.
Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. (President: Tsuyoshi Kikukawa) is pleased to announce the launch of the µ[mju:]-V. The new ultra-compact camera features a sleek metal body, a high-performance 38-105mm zoom system with one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens, and a newly developed 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus system. This is the world's smallest* 35mm compact camera featuring a 3x zoom with a range up to 105mm.
Olympus has developed the µ series as its flagship family of compact 35mm cameras. Thanks to their refined designs and advanced functions, cumulative global sales of this series have exceeded 20 million units since its launch in 1991. These best-selling cameras are used worldwide in a wide variety of photographic situations.

The new µ[mju:]-V has the same smooth and stylish body as existing µ series cameras. Unlike other models, however, it is made from elegant metallic materials with a powerful authentic feel. As the premium model in the µ series, the µ[mju:]-V offers a new sense of refinement and elegance that sets it apart from other metal-body cameras.

Olympus has also succeeded in making the µ[mju:]-V weatherproof, which has been so far technically difficult for a metal-body camera. In addition to its attractive appearance, the µ[mju:]-V also offers sophisticated practical functionality, including an 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus system for superior autofocusing accuracy, and a high-performance zoom system with an ED lens for superb image quality.

Feature Details
1. Ultra-compact metal body for a stylish, authentic look and feel (the world's smallest camera with a 3x zoom with a range up to 105mm*)
The theme for the µ range is "small and beautiful." The µ[mju:]-V takes this concept to a new level with its compact design and stylish metal body.

Compact design
The film feed path, from the patrone compartment to the take-up spool, has been totally redesigned, while the battery compartment is now part of the back cover and two smaller flash condensers are used instead of one. The result is an efficient, compact parts layout. These and other innovations have delivered dimensions of 101mm x 57mm x 42mm and a weight of 210g, making the µ METAL the world's smallest camera with a 3x zoom with a range up to 105mm*.

Metal-based Design Theme
The front and rear covers, the slide barrier and lens frame are made from high-grade aluminum, which has been finished using a special polishing process normally used for a high quality cosmetics metal container. This creates a unique luster that gives the camera a superb sense of quality and luxury. By continuing the "Wave Style" tradition of the µ series, Olympus has created a metal-body camera that combines beauty with elegance.
The central part of the body is made of stainless steel, an extremely rigid material selected for its durability and reliability, as well as for its beauty. As the premium model in the µ series, the µ[mju:]-V is designed to stay both beautiful and reliable for many years.

2. High-performance 38-105 mm 3x zoom lens with ED glass element
The lens configuration is made up of 7 groups and 8 elements. To minimize color aberration, it incorporates one Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens that is often used in interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras. There are also two high-performance aspherical lenses, which help to produce high-definition images with extremely low distortion and excellent depth and contrast. Despite its compact body, the µ[mju:]-V continues the µ tradition of superb image quality.

3. Newly developed 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus system for ultra-precise autofocusing
The multi-autofocus function allows focusing on up to 11 points, thus eliminating out-of-focus images by ensuring that the subject is always correctly recognized at all zoom ranges, from wide-angle to long-distance. The camera also has an advanced combination AF function that includes active autofocusing, whereby strobe-assisted lighting is used to determine the exact focusing distance, according to the conditions. This system ensures precise focusing even in dark or low-contrast situations, in which conventional passive autofocus systems do not always provide optimal precision.
The 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus system uses both passive and active AF functions. Simply select the image in the clear, easy-to-see viewfinder and press the shutter to achieve precision focusing under all photographic conditions.

4. Weatherproof for care-free use on rainy days (IEC grade 4 standards for "splash-proof")
Olympus has achieved the technically difficult feat of making a metal-body camera weatherproof. This feature dramatically expands the scope of photography, since the µ[mju:]-V can be used anywhere without worrying about rain, snow or splashes. This feature, together with the compact body, means that the µ[mju:]-V can be carried anywhere for a care-free photographic experience.

Bright, highly visible viewfinder
Intelligent flash system makes beautiful flash photography simple.
Remote control unit allows shutter to be released from up to 5 meters away.
A variety of interchangeable shooting modes to enhance the fun of photography
