Event Outline Olympus' Nagano Facility gave a factory tour and conducted a Microscope Class for Kids for 25 seventh graders from Okaya-Tobu Junior High School. Designed to complement the school's career education curriculum, the event was intended to help students learn more about local businesses and encourage them to start thinking about their own future, as well as how a person's work can make a difference.
The students were first briefed on the history of microscopes and the fields in which they have made a positive impact, followed by a lecture on the significance of one's work by an Olympus employee who received a Medal of Honor with Yellow Ribbon (for distinguished professional activities) and the title of Contemporary Master Craftsman from the government. After a tour of the factory and some hands-on experience operating microscopes and industrial endoscopes, the students left Olympus with a greater understanding of the significance of one's work, as reflected in their post-visit comments, such as "I realized that work is not just about earning a living—it helps you grow personally" and "I learned the importance of team work and contributing to society, and want to become an adult that cherishes these values."
