Event Outline The Oceanic Wildlife Society (OWS), an NPO, hosted the Eighth Ocean & Wildlife Photo Contest, which was open to third through twelfth graders. The entries were carefully reviewed by nature photographer Junji Takasago, Vice Representative Director of the OWS, and ocean photographer Katsuyuki Sugimori, Director of the OWS, in line with the contest's goal of showcasing outstanding photos that relate to nature observation or contribute to greater environmental awareness. Winners of the Wildlife Observation Prize, Junji Takasago Prize, Katsuyuki Sugimori Prize, and Honorable Mentions were all announced. The photo titled "Lonely Ghost Pipefish", which was taken in the Kerama Islands by a sixth grader student from Tokyo, was the winner of the Wildlife Observation Prize. All prize recipients will receive an Olympus product, such as a camera. The OWS is engaged in activities aimed at making people more aware of the importance of environmental conservation by giving the public opportunities to learn about the ocean and its inhabitants and develop a better understanding of natural processes and their importance to the public.
