Event Outline Okinawa Prefecture is working to restore its reputation for health and longevity and reduce mortality risk among those in the prime of their lives by implementing health promotion campaigns designed primarily to increase the percentage of people undergoing health checkups and cancer screening. As part of these efforts, the Okinawa Prefectural Health and Longevity Division recently held a weekend health promotion event for the general public at a major shopping mall. Olympus supported this event by setting up the Colon Cave, a giant educational model of the large intestine crafted from balloons, and by allowing visitors to operate an endoscope. The aim of these attractions was to raise awareness about colorectal cancer, the incidence of which has increased in Okinawa over the past few years. The children and parents who passed through the Colon Cave were able to learn more about colorectal cancer by hunting for sections of the cave that resembled lesions in the large intestine.
