The OLYMPUS STYLUS 1 features a 10.7x optical (28mm to 300mm) i.Zuiko Digital lens with a constant aperture f/2.8 in a compact, slim body, and is equipped with a large built in electronic viewfinder (EVF) that offers the same high class of magnification as the OM-D interchangeable lens camera. It also uses the Hybrid Control Ring from the STYLUS XZ-2 for assigning frequently used functions. This was the first Olympus compact digital camera to have a sub-dial that can be operated with the right hand thumb, allowing users to change various pre-registered settings while gripping the camera and without moving one's right hand much. Combined with the Control Ring, this control scheme makes it possible to quickly change multiple settings and customize controls.
