Olympus Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Sasa) announced today the progressive international launch of the BX53 biological microscope, featuring Olympus' new high luminosity LED with excellent color rendering performance to provide bright, sharp and true-to-color images.

Designed for high reliability and ease of use, the BX3 series is the flagship in Olympus' range of biological microscopes. An extensive line up of models are available to suit different user needs, ergonomic models ideal for routine work in clinical laboratories to fully-automated instruments necessary for cutting-edge life science research.

With the BX53, users experience the brightness and color reproduction of a 100-watt halogen lamp in a long-life, low-maintenance LED illuminator. Bright and sharp images can be obtained without the need for additional neutral density or daylight filters. The BX53 has been redesigned for easier operation, with an integrated Light Intensity Manager for specifying a preset brightness for each lens that eliminates the need to make adjustments when switching between objective lenses to change brightness levels. Simultaneously, a new 40X objective lens will also be launched to support more precise observations of thick samples such as cytologic smears.

Launch Background

Recent years have seen an increased interest in fields such as regenerative medicine, resulting in larger sample volumes and an increased demand for the ability to make observations with greater ease and efficiency. This has led to the need for microscopes that help reduce user workloads by providing sharp images of stained samples quickly. The BX53 biological microscope featuring Olympus' LED light source with high luminosity and color rendering performance was introduced to meet this demand.

Details of Main Features

[BX53]
1. Excellent brightness and sharp images using Olympus' LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance

With the BX53, users experience the brightness and color reproduction of a 100-watt halogen lamp in a long-life, low-maintenance LED illuminator. The high luminosity LED can be used to configure a multi-head discussion system1 for up to 26 people2, intended for use in situations such as conferences or classrooms. Moreover, the LED with high luminosity and color rendering performance introduced from this new model is suitable for all forms of transmitted light observation3, including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light.

2. Brightness can be automatically selected with each objective lens

The BX53 microscope includes a function for specifying a preset brightness for each objective lens. The Light Intensity Manager uses information from a coded revolving nosepiece to adjust to a preset LED brightness level for each objective lens. This helps ensure that users can make observations using their preferred brightness, without the need to make adjustments when switching between objective lenses.

[LPLN40X]
Clear observation of thick samples

Aberrations (image distortion) can occur when observing thick samples at high magnification. The new LPLN40X objective lens with correction collar can correct aberrations to provide clear images regardless of preparation thickness.
