TOKYO, August 7, 2025 - Olympus Corporation (Olympus), a global MedTech company committed to making people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling, has been named a “Co-creator” company for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which will be held from August 20 to August 22 in PACIFICO YOKOHAMA. The Co-creator title was conferred upon Olympus in recognition of its significant contributions to strengthening Japan-Africa relations and addressing economic and social challenges across the African continent, with a particular focus on Kenya.

TICAD 9 is an international conference led by the Government of Japan and jointly organized by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. As Co-Creators of the event, selected companies will actively promote TICAD 9 both domestically and internationally. They will also support public-private and inter-private engagement in Japan and Africa by arranging meetings with African dignitaries and coordinating company visits through the TICAD 9 platform and other channels.

Olympus’ activities in Kenya

Olympus conducts activities in emerging countries including Kenya to help improve their standard of healthcare. For instance, in July 2023, we launched the "Kenya Endoscopy Human Resource Development Support Project for the Diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Diseases" with the aim to promote endoscopic care in Kenya, which faces a shortage of endoscopists. Through the project, Japanese physicians provide training to Kenyan doctors at major medical institutions, including Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenya's leading medical teaching hospital, while also instructing them on how to train the next generation of endoscopists.

Olympus will be presenting at the TICAD 9 symposium “A Decade of the Project for Global Growth of Medical Technologies in Africa - Past Achievements and the Way Forward -” on August 20. For more information, click here.
