A new “True to Life Story” featuring the fight with cancer
of former WBA champion Shinji Takehara

TOKYO, October 14, 2024 – Olympus Corporation (Olympus) has released the latest installment of its "True to Life Stories," featuring stories of how Olympus is contributing to “making people's lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling” through advanced medical technologies and solutions. The latest story highlights Shinji Takehara, a former professional boxer in Japan.

“Life will eventually come to an end for all of us. But no one can tell when it will happen. So, it is better to live with a smile and a positive attitude.” Shinji Takehara became the first Japanese boxer to achieve the unprecedented feat of becoming the WBA middleweight champion. Since he was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the age of 42, he has lived with his disease. Through a major turning point, his changed “way of life” is introduced in an interview article and video.
